the galette affair.

Don't tell, but I'm cheating on Pie.  With its cousin, Galette.  It started about a year ago.  I saw one and it looked so delicious, and I've been guiltily seeing Galette off and on ever since.  The problem is that Pie and Galette are so similar.  Same crust, same flavor, same fillings.  The difference?  Galette is a little more approachable.  A little more rustic.  A little more forgiving of my mistakes.  And easily adjustable.

I had my sights set on Pie.  I made the crust.  I cut up all my overly ripe pears.  And then it hit me.  I didn't have enough pears.  I needed about twice as much.  At this point, what was I to do?  I made Galettes.  You see, Galettes are made of the same crust, you use the same filling, but they are baked right on a baking sheet, and part of the charm of them is that they are individual sized and uneven edges make them look even more romantic.  Galette is forgiving of my inability to roll out a perfect circle for the crust.  Galette doesn't make me wait an hour to bake.  Oh, Galette, how I love you.

Sorry Pie.  I'll try not to let it happen too often, but I can't make any promises not to cheat on you again.  If only Galettes didn't make me feel like I could bake everything to perfection then maybe it would be easier not to stray.

pleats, rick rack and pin tucks

A few weekends ago, I headed to one of my dear friend's bridal shower and it was so cute! Her cousin and aunt hosted the cutest tea party bridal shower, with different teas, scones, tea sandwiches and the most adorable attention to detail. Alyssa and I have been friends for such a long time, we counted back and it has been 18 years!

I love making gifts for friends and once again, I was inspired by Anthro. I decided to make her an apron very much akin to one they have there. I love aprons. Doesn't it make you want to go shell peas under the clothesline where towels and tablecloths are drying in the summer wind? Okay, so it makes me want to do that.*

It has a halter neck, tiny pin tucks on the bodice, box pleats on the apron waistline, welt pockets and then rick rack on the bottom border.

I think I need to make one for myself!  I can't wait to celebrate Alyssa and Bryan's wedding in November!

*and say what you want about gender roles, I'm all for gender equality, but I'm also all for adorable things.
